Q.  Can my child be in a cabin with their friends?

Yes. On your child's registration form, there is a space to write in requests for cabin pals. We will try our best to accommodate. Please make sure all requests are made on the registration form prior to camp. We will try our best to accommodate last minute requests however the more notice the better.

Q.  Who are your cabin leaders?

We hire 15 paid Sr Cabin Leaders who we hire every summer.  All are 17 or older.  This team of Sr staff spend 6 days of training prior to our summer season.  They all have standard first aid and are interviewed prior to hiring.  They all require police checks as well.  Our Sr Staff Leaders also give leadership to different aspects of our program.

Along side our Sr Staff we have our Jr Staff.  Our Jr Staff is made of High school volunteers who work two or three weeks of the summer.  There is a application and interview process that they all go through and after being accepted they too participate in a training.

Each cabin has 1 Sr Staff Leader and 1 Jr Staff leader.

We have 2 summer directors who along with our full time director give direction to the program.

Q.  Can I contact my child, or can my child contact me while at camp?

Due to the way it causes homesickness in some campers, and how it detracts from the camp program, we generally discourage phone contact between campers and their families during the week. However, there is a payphone available for extenuating circumstances, and you can leave messages with the office assistant if you need your child to contact you. We strongly encourage sending letters to your child - it is exciting to get mail from the "outside world", and it certainly adds to your child's week.

Q.  How do I send my camper a letter and can I send it ahead of time?

You can send your child postal mail to the following address:

Child's First & Last Name, Camp Session

9311 Shook Road

Mission, B.C.

V2V 7M2

We also welcome parents to write letters ahead of time and bring them on registration day. Please make sure to clearly indicate on the envelope(s) which day or days of the week the letter or letters are to be delivered, as well as the camper's first and last name.

Q.  Are the children supervised at all times?

Yes. Our staff to camper ratio is 5:1, and there are always staff members present at all activities and stations during the day (activity blocks and free time). We brief the campers on safety issues at the beginning of the week so that they are aware of the rules and guidelines. The day is planned in such a way that there is not much opportunity for a child to not be accounted for - with activities and cabin time, your child is constantly under the care of at least one staff member.

Q.  What Should Campers NOT Bring?

Each year there are at least a couple of campers that choose to bring cell phones, mp3 players, or expensive cameras, and inevitably at the end of the week they are not able to find them.

We ask that parents make sure the following items are not brought to camp with your camper. Please understand that many of these things are for the safety of all campers, and that items with value can get lost or stolen. We will ask campers to hand in any of the following items if they bring them, and we will return them at the end of the week (assuming they are legal items for the camper to have).

Money

Electronic Devices (eg. Cell phone, iPod, radio, Discman, mp3 player, Gameboy, etc.)

Digital cameras or videocameras

CDs or DVDs

Q.  Do I Need to Send Money with my Child?

No! Your camp registration includes treats from the canteen each day, so you won't need any extra money for that. The other items in the store (Camp Luther clothing, water bottles, DVDs, etc.) will only be for sale on the first and last days of camp, so you can do your shopping as soon as you're done signing in or when the camp ends.

Q.  Are there any Souvenirs for my Child?

Each camper will be sent home with a camper T-shirt, especially designed each summer and a cabin photo. The canteen will be open (at registration and pick up) to purchase clothing, water bottles, etc. There will also be a DVD of your camper's week.  These may be pre-ordered on your application, or purchased on the fist or last day of camp.
