DEALING WITH

HOMESICKNESS

AT CAMP

We understand that sending your child to camp can be challenging, and many parents feel a mix of emotions during this time. To create a positive environment, we encourage you to express your excitement for your child's time at camp. Use language like "I am so excited for you to have this adventure" or "I can't wait to hear about the amazing things you'll do at camp."

When it comes to homesickness, here are a couple of strategies:

1.        Avoid Exit Strategies: Resist the urge to promise that you'll pick them up if they feel homesick. This assurance can inadvertently make it more challenging for them to fully engage in camp activities.

2.       Foster a Sense of Security: Encourage your child to get involved in camp activities and build relationships with cabin mates and leaders. Reassure them that you love them, say your goodbyes, and trust that they are in a safe and supportive environment.

3.       Communication is Key: If your child needs to hear a familiar voice, or we want to get advice from a pro on your child, we will contact you.

Thanks for taking the time to prepare your child for camp. We're here to support both you and your child every step of the way.
